TimberScan Migrations

Why can’t we do our own TimberScan migration?

The TimberScan migration is almost identical to an installation with one notable exception: in a migration, all of the image file locations in TimberScan AND Sage 300 CRE AP must be changed so that they reflect the new path locations in the new environment.

These changes are made to your production TimberScan and Sage Timberline data. Changes made to TimberScan data require very strong SQL skills, including the design and deployment of custom T-SQL update queries. The changes to the Sage 300 CRE AP attachment links require very strong Access skills including the design and deployment of custom update queries.

A migration requires much more than a copy and paste of the TimberScan folder from the old server to the new (although that is a small part of what is done). A new SQL instance must be created and configured and the SQL data ported from the old instance to the new. The connection information in the migrated SQL data must be updated to reflect the new location of Sage 300 CRE.

The connection to the new instance as well as the instance’s connection to the new location of Sage 300 CRE must be configured and tested just as it was done during the initial installation.

Our technicians have performed hundreds of migrations which means they can perform the tasks involved with greater speed, efficiency and accuracy. They will also take the necessary steps to respect and preserve the integrity of both your TimberScan and Sage 300 CRE data. We will meet ahead of time with your staff including IT professionals, to ensure that all preparatory steps are understood and taken and that all phases of the migration of TimberScan and Sage 300 CRE are coordinated to result in the most seamless transition possible.

We charge a small fee to cover the time to dedicate a Level III Technician; this fee will be provided to you in our Migration Letter. Most migrations are completed within three hours depending on the amount of data to be migrated. We also request a two-week notification so we can match your time requirements with those of our Technicians and to allow ample time for you to complete any preparatory steps.

Please do not perform your Sage 300 CRE migration without first consulting with us and obtaining our TimberScan migration checklist. You may run the risk of data loss.

Our experience has shown that when migrations are not performed by our qualified staff, multiple problems ensue which jeopardize the stability of TimberScan/Sage 300 CRE environments. It is for this reason that any work we perform on a migration not performed by AvidXchange is considered outside of our normal support and billable, even if the migration cannot be corrected. (Such work will normally take even longer than if we initially performed it.)
